Extending from just beyond Fairbanks, Alaska all the way to the north at Deadhorse and Prudhoe Bay, the Dalton Highway was originally a service road for the Trans Alaska Pipeline. The 400+ mile highway crosses into the Arctic Circle, and passes through the Brooks Range at Atigun Pass, not far from Gates of the Arctic National Park. Fairly off the beaten track for visitors to Alaska (especially in winter), the road has, however, been popularized by shows like Ice Road Truckers and World’s Most Dangerous Roads.
